What's the best spring strategy for Locovores with green thumbs?

It's been a long winter and there seems to be enough interest in spring herb and vegetable planting to start this new thread.  In a different thread, Rod answered the question of what grows well in pots:

For the full sun in containers grow Basil. It's fast, easy and useful. There are a hundred Basil varieties to choose from, all grow well through-out the great Lakes region.
Vegetables include, most Tomato varieties, Hot Peppers and sweet Banana Peppers. Compact Zuchinni Squash, Bush type Cucumbers.
Leaf Lettuce, Swiss Chard.
The list is much longer but these are guaranteed easy if... Need large enough pot size at least 8" for the herbs and Lettuce, 14" for the Peppers and Chard and 16 tp 20 inch for the Tomatoes, Squash and Cucumbers.
Don't let them dry out. Fertilize every week.

“Plants Are Good” or “Use Plants"

Maybe our industry needs a slogan to bring plants back into the game.
